New Arrival

The Kint family grew by one member at 5:20 am today -- little bit earlier than expected. Mommy was scheduled for a c-section at 11:00, but the little one couldn't wait that long. Mommy's water broke at about 5 after midnight, so we packed up and headed to Harrisburg. Darin Jeremy Kint was 8 pounds, 10 ounces, and 20 and 1/4th inches long. These pictures are not in chronological order, but seeing as how Daddy hasn't slept but an hour or two in the last 40, he is too tired to rearrange them.
Darin would be about 4-1/2 hours old here -- the first Mommy got to hold him (Mommy's hand with IV in the foreground)
This next one was taken by one of the nurses, still in the OR, the first Daddy got to hold him. Daddy's guessing he's about 10 minutes old or less at this point.
This was the first he really had his eyes open (other than when they put the gunky medicine stuff in). This was about 12:30, so he'd be 7 hours or so at this point.
Last, a picture to show his big hands and feet. This was right after they trimmed his cord, he's probably less than 5 minutes old here.
Also be sure to check out Pappy Leister's selction of photos from our little bundle of joy, here.

Goings On

A busy week in the Kint household this week, mostly because of sick kids. Malin came dowstairs about 4:00 Wednesday morning, complaining that she couldn't sleep. She didn't have to get too close to Mommy and Daddy before we knew why -- we could feel the heat coming off of her! We took her temperature, and it was 104.3. We gave her Tylenol and got her undressed and wiped her down with a wet cloth. By the time Daddy left for work at 5:30, it was down to 103.5. We got her to the doctors and got her on an antibiotic for strep throat. By Thursday afternoon, Gavin had the same high fever, and was throwing up too. We didn't get any sick pictures of Malin, but here is a picture of Gavin curled up and napping in Mommy's lap, something he never does except when he's sick.
So the other day, all on his own, Gavin got a screwdriver out of the tool drawer and managed to take the strike plate off of the door between the computer room and the great room. Mam-Maw caught him in the act, and didn't stop him (of course). When asked what he was doing, Gavin replied, "Daddy teached me how to do this. We worked together to fixed the electricity in my room." (Daddy allowed him to help put the cover plates back on the outlets after we painted his room). He went on to explain that the electricity comes up from the basement, and that Mam-maw needent worry, because he "already went to the basement and turned it off."!! He was doing so well with it that Mommy couldn't resist a picture.
Malin has her first loose tooth. Actually, both of her bottom front teeth are loose -- the right a good bit more than the left. She is a little nervous about wiggling it, and isn't sure about the whole tooth-fairy thing, but she keeps asking for apples for a snack in hopes that it will fall out faster. More to come on this subject, I'm sure.
Mam-Maw found a good deal on some 'Incredibles' fabric and made Gavin a couple of pillow cases. He asked a few days in a row to have them tied around his neck for a cape. Mam-Maw had some extra fabric, so she went ahead and made a real cape for him. Next, he said he needed a hat! Mam-Maw obliged with the last scrap of the fabric. He's been wearing his hat and cape around the house all week, and pretending to be Mr. Incredible. Here he is 'exercising' (Because Mr. Incredible needs a lot of that) on the treadmill, as Malin watches.

Out on the ice

It's been below freezing here for so long that even the moving waterways have frozen over. The kids love to go down and slide around on the ice. We were to Pappy Leister's this weekend to celebrate Aunt Christie's birthday, and Pappy took all the kids down to 'the crick'. These pictures from Pappy's website were taken near or under the Licking Creek/Walnut bridge.

Fun & Games

Mommy had a weekend getaway to the Crop House in Lancaster again, so Daddy had the kids all to himself. We had a great weekend building trains, reading, and wrestling among other things. Saturday night, Charshe, Grandma Aughey, and Nana came over to play games. We played Candy Land, Go Fish, and Sorry. What fun!
Although the kids love to play out in the snow, Mommy and Daddy can tell that they miss the warm summer weather. How, you ask? Well -- because one of their favorite things to do is to dig out their swimsuits and pretend that they're at the beach or the pool. Here's Malin 'sunbathing' with her stuffed animals on their 'beach chairs'; and Gavin just around the corner, stepping out of the pool in to his robe.

With all the cold weather and snow (Daddy had to take off work today rather than chance the mountain), it's too bad that we missed our usual trip to Georgia and Florida to visit Uncle Brian and Aunt Robin, and Mom-Mom and Pap-Pap.

Brrr!

Well, we're entering a week straight of below freezing temperatures. Negative four (not counting wind chill) on Daddy's way to work this morning. The school district was in a two-hour delay this morning, and they've already announced the same for tomorrow. The whole house just never quite seems to be warm despite the registers and the fire going non-stop. Here's a few picture highlights from the week
We had our first 'real' snow of the year on Friday. Daddy came home from work a bit early to make sure he made it over the mountain, and then played outside with the kids for hours. Malin worked very hard on this snowman. She rolled the balls all herself. The only thing Daddy helped with was lifting the middle ball. Unfortunately, Gavin knocked it over before it was finished. Malin was devistated, but at least we got a couple of pictures of it.
Nana bought this neat little thing (red ball in center of picture) from L.L. Bean and brought it along to our Super Bowl party last night. You fill one half of it up with ice cream mix, and the other half with ice and rock salt. Then you let the kids roll it around on the floor for 20 minutes and you open it up and have ice cream! It barely makes enough for one kid, but we somehow managed to split it between the four of them. Luckily for the adults, Daddy and Pappy Leister had made 8 quarts earlier in the day.
Gavin got a special treat Sunday afternoon. Grandma Jean didn't want to brave the cold weather, so Nana and Pappy Tom had an extra ticked to a Penn State basketball game, and invited Gavin along. Gavin and Daddy left church early to get ready, and Gavin begged for a tattoo (a Christmas present from Nana). Daddy managed to find them, and his new Penn State sweatshirt too. He was excited to go, and the report came back that he was very well behaved, and had a good time.
